Look for various definitions of personnel management and human resource management and their authors and sources (minimum of 5). Critique each.

Embarassed..First Definition..Embarassed
Within organizations that employ people, this is the function with policy responsibility for the selection and recruitment of staff, training, performance assessment, career development, disciplinary proceedings, pre-retirement advisory work, equal opportunities policies, pay bargaining, and industrial relations.
albino comment: I agree on this definition because within the organizations, the personnel management is the in charge of these functions combined with other management responsibilities and concerned in setting policy and its performance.

Embarassed.. Second Definition..Embarassed
The terms "human resource management" and "human resources" (HR) have largely replaced the term "personnel management" as a description of the processes involved in managing people in organizations. Human Resource management is evolving rapidly. Human resource management is both an academic theory and a business practice that addresses the theoretical and practical techniques of managing a workforce.
albino comment: The definition above mentioned that Human Resource Management describe the process involved in managing people which also means giving importance on the manpower who plays an important role in an organization.

Embarassed..Third Definition..Embarassed
Human Resource Development is the framework for helping employees develop their personal and organizational skills, knowledge, and abilities. Human Resource Development includes such opportunities as employee training, employee career development, performance management and development, coaching, succession planning, key employee identification, tuition assistance, and organization development.

albino comment: The above definition explains that the HRM (Human Resource Management) give some opportunities to their employees such as "employee training, employee career development,etc." that serves as framework in developing their abilities and skills. Which is very important in terms of developing the most superior workforce to serve the customers.

albino comment: The definition above state that Human Resources Management is the process of setting policies that impact everyone associated with the company.

Primavera”

(Spring)

Yesterday, September 26,2008, our groupmates consulted to Sir Gamboa. He gave us “75%” and it feels overwhelming because it means that our proposal was almost complete. Go groupmates!! We can do it!! Aja!

“God Given Gift”

On the dawn of September 18, 1989 a cute little baby was born and the family was very happy because of a new member. According to her father who saw what had happened that night, the baby was as petite as a coca cola bottle and tubby as it can be. Well, delivering this little girl was really hard; giving all the serenity is required. But after all the hardships of giving birth to her they were so happy, and they named it Tanya Clarissa. And that is me...^_^

My Fathers name is Mr. Antonio Amancio, I got my name “Tanya” from his, and they append the second name “Clarissa”. I really don’t know why my mom chose “Clarissa” as my second name. But, I tried to interview her and she only answered me that she likes that name. I know that she has a reason and she only wants me to be puzzled. Honestly, I don’t like it. Why?? It’s your post to ask me personally.=P Well, I just need to accept that I’m Tanya CLARISSA and I was a God given gift to my family.

"my journal..whoooaaa!"

Last Saturday, September 20,2008, my groupmates and me meet at the school and made our major paper for our proposal on our adopted company. Then we decided to go to John’s house to finish the interface. I arrived at John’s house before 10:00 pm because I go to church first to attend the meeting. We made the database all night and we finished it earlier in the morning. I was so very sleepy that time because I only sleep 2 hours. Then, I need to go home, and get prepared so that I won’t be late at church. But, it was worthy because we made it! Simple but awesome.!!

"my journal..whoooaaa!"

Last Monday, September 17, 2008 our groupmates started making an introduction on our major paper. We went to the library and planned the making for our proposal. We made the background of the study, objectives of the proposal and the scope and limitations. We borrow books to have some reference and formats in making the intro, objectives, etc. I was assigned to make purpose of our proposal then I let John to revise it.

Then, our next plan is to start making an interface.:)

assignment # 8

"Interview a personnel/human resource manager on his concept on the nature, scope and role of human resource management. Do you agree with him? Explain. Is his concept similar to that of the management of his organization? If not, ask him how the differences are settled."

Honestly speaking, I didn't interview a personnel. But, our group planned to interview the Human Resource personnel of Concentrix. Sad to say, he was so busy and can't entertain us. Aside from that, our group was also busy in making our major paper. Actually, we got "75%" tongue Anyway, back to our assignment, I'm going to base my answer on our previous interview to several HR personnel we had interviewed for our group project.

According to Mr. Alex Somera, an HR Personnel of Emcor, the Human Resource Department of Emcor is the responsible for managing the Human Resources including the main purpose of the HRM to attain the needs of the employees. For example, HRM is the responsible for their benefits, insurances and fun activities so that their employees will stay and will be inspired to their company. He said that the manpower is the responsible that is why the organization produces. The employees are the motivation and in charge for the survival of the industry that is why they have to be concerned of them, they are the one who manufacture, who works and keep the organization survive but they could also be the reason to destabilize the industry.

I agree on Mr. Alex Somera because he is right in terms of saying that human resource is important and and plays an important role in an organizationt. Without HR, company won't survive because they have the ability and ideas to improve a company.

"That,s all........ thank you! Laughing "

“Justamente Feliz”

(Just Got Lucky)

Our group chooses RDL and INSULAR HOTEL as our first adopted companies. Unfortunately, we are not entertained because they we’re busy. But, it is not the reason to give up! Instead, we’re challenged and made some letters. And we realized that most things happen and came out with one special force! Braveness brings us and we are anxious to have an adopted company.

We’ve done a lot of research as if we are looking for a job. We listed it and made some letters. At last! one positive response.. :))

This Feeling When It Rains

I don't know this feeling when it rains;
when the sky is heavy
and the air is wet;
when the leaves are fresh
and the grass shiny;
when crystals are all around
and the weather cool;
when the wind blows soft
and whispers like a dream;
when it is nice to sleep
and build tales in the mind;
when girls become pretty
and their hair so smooth;
when lovers become sweet
and the birds sing cheer;
when the farmers smile
and trees grow tall;
when the world looks beautiful
and you know Someone cares.

"History of anime (ah-NEE-may)"

Many people are fond of watching animes. My younger sister is one of them. She is Toni a 2nd Year College. She really akin on collecting anime stuff as if she wants to buy everything she saw with anime drawing and screams (showing her affection on it). Actually, it is not difficult for me to buy a present for her because I know what she wants.

Me, myself and I are also an anime fan but not that much as my sister who is really an aficionada. I only admire animes because it is cute and gorgeous. I also like watching stories about it. My classmate shares his collection of movies and I admitted that it is good than a telenovela.

Actually, I prepared a research about animes, and I want to share it with you.

Anime (ah-NEE-may), more commonly referred to as Japanese animation, has its roots in manga (MAHN-ga), or Japanese comics. over hundred years ago, it starts as pictures drawn on temple walls, then on wooden blocks, and finally as woodblock prints with captions collected in books. In time, the captions became stories and the art became sequential. By the early 20th century, manga had become the main form of literature for most of Japanese society.

At the same time, animated filmmaking started in Europe and then the U.S. When it appeared in Japan, it became a huge phenomenon—so much so that after 1940, over 40% of all domestic films in Japan were animated films based on manga. Due to its integral role in Japanese society, manga appealing to all age groups were routinely published and the scope of animated films also spanned all ages. Conversely, animation was perceived as primarily a medium for children in the West, due to the lack of animated films aimed at older viewers and the flood of now classic cartoons in the decades both before and after World War II.

When television became a popular entertainment medium in Japan, animation naturally became a large part of the programming schedule. While other shows preceded it, the first really huge animated series in terms of popularity was Osamu Tezuka’s Tetsuwan Atom in 1963. The show’s popularity caught the attention of NBC in 1964 and 104 episodes were syndicated in the U.S. as Astro Boy and became the highest rated syndicated show on television, live action or otherwise. As a result of this reaction, other shows soon found their way on to American television, including Tetsujin 28 (Gigantor), Eight Man (TOBOR, the Eighth Man), Kaitei Shonen Marin (Marine Boy), Jungle Taitei [Jungle Emperor] (Kimba, the White Lion), and Mach Go-Go-Go! (Speed Racer). Although these shows were edited to American standards (often with numerous episodes not even being released in the U.S.), broadcasters and pressure groups still complained about the violence present in these shows.

These protests resulted in a lull in bringing anime to American television for a number of years, although series and features were still being released in Japan and were wildly successful. U.S. viewers didn’t get another look at anime until the late 1970’s, when 1972’s Kagaku Ninja Tai Gatchaman

The first anime series shown in America was Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy (Tetsuwan Atom). Astro Boy premiered on NBC stations in 1963. The premise of the show was very simple, Dr. Tenma builds a robot boy in the image of his dead son. Latter realizing that his robot boy son will never grow to become man, Dr. Tenma sells Astroy Boy to circus. Eventually Astro Boy is rescued by Dr. Orchanomizu's, who adopts him and begins to create a robot family. NBC Enterprises changed character names to make it more American. Dr. Tenma was renamed Dr. Boyton and Dr. Orchanomizu's name became Dr. Elefun.

STATE OF THE NATION ADDRESS OF PRESIDENT GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO DURING THE 2ND REGULAR SESSION OF THE 14TH CONGRESS OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES, 28 July 2008

Our President, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo stated her State of the Nation Address last July 28, 2008. She said something about the progress we are having in 2007. She said, "we ended 2007 with the strongest economic growth in a generation. Inflation was low, the peso strong and a million new jobs were created. We were all looking to a better, brighter future."

-According to her SONA, I read an article who catches my attention and I think it relates on our subject Human Resource Management.

"Our P 350 million training partnership with the private sector should qualify 60,000 for call centers, medical transcription, animation and software development, which have a projected demand of one million workers generating $13 billion by 2010."

-we all know that training is important because it refers to the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and competencies. Because of this trainings, the million students who took vocational courses are given a chance to have a job and and it helps to develop the skills to have a more competitive and well trained hu\man resource.

"To our investors, thank you for your valuable role in our development. I invite you to invest not only in factories and services, but in profitable infrastructure, following the formula for the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway."

-about on this statement, our President invite some investors because they can offer jobs if ever they decide to have a company in our country. There will be an increase on the demand of workers.

"Bago ako naging Pangulo, isa’t kalahating milyong maralita lamang ang may health insurance. Noong 2001, sabi natin, dadagdagan pa ng kalahating milyon. Sa taong iyon, mahigit isang milyon ang nabigyan natin. Ngayon, 65 milyong Pilipino na ang may health insurance, mahigit doble ng 2000, kasama ang labinlimang milyong maralita. Philhealth has paid P100 billion for hospitalization. The indigent beneficiaries largely come from West and Central Visayas, Central Luzon, and Ilocos."

-on this statement, our President states about health insurances. The health insurance is generally used to describe a form of insurance that pays for medical expenses. It is important because it includes insurance covering disability or long-term nursing or custodial care needs.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said:
"I care too much about this nation to let anyone stand in the way of our people's wellbeing. Hindi ko papayagang humadlang ang sinuman sa pag-unlad at pagsagana ng taong bayan. I will let no one – and no one's political plans – threaten our nation's survival.
Our country and our people have never failed to be there for us. We must be there for them now."

I just hope that all of her promises will be implemented well. We all know that being a president requires a very heavy responsibility. We just need to cooperate and be concern. Razz

"Human Beings are the most important, potent, critical Resource of any Organizations and yet the least understood and the worst managed resources"

A company or organization cannot stand without human beings who play an important role. Man is the most important, potent and critical, resource of any organization because they are the one who are working. Humans have a highly developed brain, capable of abstract reasoning, language, introspection, and emotion. Humans are notable for their desire to understand and influence the world around them, seeking to explain and manipulate natural phenomena through science. This natural curiosity has led to the development of advanced tools and skills. Since we are high-tech right now, they also have the knowledge on new technologies and capable to manipulate a big machines. New technologies today are one of the main reasons why companies today become more productive and competitive. But, machines don't have a "heart" who cannot feel and only follows instructions without knowing if it is a good or bad decision. Man can give their best to cooperate and to achieve the goal of a company and success of an organization.They are unpredictable because we, humans have different characteristics, beliefs and personalities.

Why HRM is included in the BSCS/BSIT curriculum?

According to Wikipidea Human resource management (HRM) is the strategic and coherent approach to the management of an organization's most valued assets - the people working there who individually and collectively contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the business.

HRM is included in BSCS/BSIT curriculum because we need to understand the importance of it to meet strategic goals by attracting, and maintaining the employees and also to manage them effectively.

Soon, we will graduate (hoping.. Razz ) and we will be a part of the scope of HRM. We need to know how HRM flows so that we will be aware on our actions and also they can help you to develop your characteristics as an competitive employee. lol!

As an aspiring employee of a company, HRM was involved in undergoing a training and orientation so that they will know your ability as an employee in the company. They also deals in hiring and firing.

A BSIT students can make a program (database systems) which can helps the HR in collecting datas.

"21st Century Corporation"

We are living in this fast changing world because of technology. As I observed, new
technologies, particularly the Internet and high-tech gadgets are now arising. In these years, almost people are using these said technologies. Manpower is important because they are the one who are working but there are companies now that using big machines that's why they provide you with product knowledge, experience and the tools to improve your business performance. The corporation is undergoing a radical transformation that is nothing less than a new Industrial Revolution.The revolution is reaching every corner of the globe and in the process, rewriting the rules laid down by Sloan, Henry Ford, and other Industrial Age giants. The 21st century corporation that emerges will in many ways be the polar opposite of the organizations they helped shape.

The turn of the millennium is now based to software. Software is an idea; which people can make a programs and inventions. Through technology, jobs can be more efficient. Redundancy are reduced and less time consumed because of the database systems used in companies. In the 21st century, corporations will have great benefits in their workers. They are more competitive because they have the privilege to know some ideas so that corporations will undergo a major transformations.

--AT&T Downsizing Jeopardizes Quality Service, CWA Charges --

_______________________________________________________

  • April 30, 1999
    ----The Communications Workers of America is in discussion with AT&T over the proposed downsizing of 2,400 to 3,000 technicians who maintain the AT&T network nationwide.
    ----The company has made no public announcement and CWA currently has not been given details about exact locations and jobs to be affected. Discussions, however, are continuing.
    ----AT&T's move seriously jeopardizes service and puts the integrity of the network at risk, said CWA Vice President Jim Irvine, who is responsible for CWA's day-to-day operations with AT&T.
    ----AT&T is talking about eliminating half, or more, of the skilled technicians who maintain and monitor the AT&T network nationwide. Clearly, losing this many skilled employees will have a detrimental impact on quality service. AT&T already has cut its workforce to the bone. Now it proposes getting rid of the very people responsible for AT&T's reputation for quality and for generating a 39 percent increase in first-quarter profits this year.
    ----When AT&T purchased cable giant Tele-Communications Inc., we hoped that AT&T would elevate the inferior quality of the cable companies. What we didn't expect is that AT&T instead would lower its own standards as it continues to invest tens of billions of dollars in an effort to dominate that industry.
    ----But that's exactly what's happening. By cutting the jobs of the skilled employees responsible for the high quality service customers have come to expect, AT&T is degrading the quality of its network, the morale of its employees, and above all, a reputation that made it among the most profitable companies in the industry."
